And this kind of thinking Iain, Characterizing a biological organ ‘as-if' it is a Person, is self-hypnotic, self-deception. Unwittingly scapegoating the brain to avoid admitting the perennial sin of Self-ignorance. Iain says “we appear to be sleepwalking towards the Abyss,” yet fails to articulate 'how' He is Sleepwalking. Stuck fast in the Self-hypnotic ‘trance-state’ of consciousness induced during infancy, by following the parental instructions Look! Words are Reality!

And we obey through the subconsciously synchronous and subconsciously 'automatic' orchestration of our behaviors by our ‘entire” nervous system. As it synchronously orchestrates our embodied Reality. Including the synchronous way reality-labelling words appear in the mind, with the sight of familiar objects. A phenomenon of human behaviour that creates our species-specific form of experiential blindness.

A less discerning and more dissociative sense-of-reality that is undeniably out-of-sync with the earth-turning reality of being-in-time. Hence we are quite literally Sleepwalking. Looking at that giant ball of nuclear fusion 93 million miles away from our eye-balls, and dissociating from it's cosmic reality, by dismissing the warmth of it's felt presence, as a mere reality-labelling Word.

And Iain is right that we are great tool makers, yet demonstrates how he himself does not grasp the reality of language, as a tool for communication. Demonstrating his ignorant unawareness of our communication-biased consciousness. And sheer insanity of our Rhetoric-is-Reality Politics of Experience. Hence the increasing polarisation of the culture wars and our Self-hypnotically Stupid sense of Us vs Them.

Thanks very much for the podcast which I'll listen to a little while, but I wonder if the problem can be right brain thinking masquerading as left brain thinking. A couple of good examples would be the covid insanity plus the transing kids lunacy. Both were a quasi religion presented as science.

I have thoughts on dx seeking in today’s world. Years ago I taught in public schools that predominantly were well within poverty level. My daughter graduated from a nice private school full of wealthy students. I basically had a foot in both worlds.

In poverty based schools the student’s parents are seeking a dx for Government services and stimulus income. In the private school setting the wealthy parents seek a dx to get their child extra time on exams and special consideration/accommodations from a University their child intends to enroll.

I believe there is some drug seeking involved as well. The poverty group can sell their meds whereas wealthy people can take some of their child’s meds. They figured out long ago that stimulants are great for wine hangovers and maintaining a desired weight

Both groups are equally working the system as well as pointing fingers at each other

If I were a treating physician I would look for motives

“… why we’re diagnosing personality quirks instead of building character.”

I would guess it’s because our model is built upon sympathy and self-indulgence. The bureaucracy wants people to be weak and dependent (not strong and virtuous) and the market exists to sell us trinkets and salves based upon what we think we want. There’s no counterweight pushing people to improve… other than the pain of existence, and we have more hacks and distractions to manage that than ever before.
