Solzhenitsyn gave an excellent description of splitting with “the line that separates good and evil does not run between political parties, but right down the middle of every human heart.”
You are right that leftist women are morally primitive.
The psychiatric establishment’s silence on it is just (yet another) abdication of its rich clinical tradition.
I wouldn't pick on women about that primitiveness... The ultimate root of morality is always self interest. Civilization, culture, religion and finally political ideology cloak it with many layers of rationalisation to make it seem principled.
That's one of the reasons wokeism is so objectionable - one of its constants is the demand that swathes act directly against their own self interest - ie women should shun parenthood, Western working classes should love mass immigration, that Jews should be anti-zionist, men be misandric and so forth. It is at heart a suicidal ideology - like the BPD sufferer self-harming, these activists want to *collectively* self-harm their own society.
Western women, as all members of western society, have particular vulnerabilities that are exploited by their enemies. What do you think they meant by “open society”? It included opening all borders, removing all limits, and opening women’s legs and breaking their hearts and minds. I hope this series leads to an exploration of the recent history (past 200 years) of social engineering as one of the sources of the dysfunctions discussed.
By "morally primitive" I meant, they exhibit splitting. Splitting is a deficiency of moral concepts, and ego-states. A deficiency of moral behavior may be related. Narcissists often have "superego lacunae"... but that's not what I was saying.
Some people may be morally primitive (the simplistic ethics of a Papa New Guinea tribe, with forbidden areas and what not), and yet very observably moral.
Women's minds are tuned to children, that's why few women will say "what an ugly woman looks like." (Appropriate, since there is no such thing as an ugly mother.) Thus all women (and borderlines even more so), are, compared with men, more simplistic and primitive about evaluation of beauty characteristics. This holds true for moral evaluations as well.
Having been the spouse of a borderline I can attest to the damages caused.
It is very interesting to attribute at least some of the life we see playing out before our eyes as part and parcel of a more broad societal impact of this disease.
Diagnosis by a mental health professional. But I was 10 for 10 on the Welcome to Oz list of things that significant others to a BPD. Find the book "Stop Walking on Eggshells" by Randy Kreiger.
I'm so glad you continue to write about these subjects! Having worked under a psychiatrist for a few years, there are things I have seen and learned that are difficult to relate to other people, even other people who work in healthcare and mental/behavioral health. Many people get the qualifications and get the job and sort of just coast on their wage and whatever they retained from school. You seem like you really get it, like you get the broader picture and you're brain hasn't been fogged by algorithms or administrative politics or cynicism. I guess what I am saying is you don't seem to have lost sight of the patients after all you went through to become a psychiatrist and it shows in your writing. Thanks!
Hannah, how much of this is the channelling and politicizing of the deviances and dysfunctionalities that are well known to result from fatherless upbrinings? Given that this is especially acute in adolescent girls (some superannuated) and that today's "progressive causes", that you cite, are overwhelmingly sexual, it cannot be mere coincidence.
You are absolutely right in pointing that out, this is the first of three articles on this, first I’m establishing widespread problem we all see and how it relates to the symptomatology, next I will get into the development and there is indeed a strong negative effect on trait neuroticism with low paternal involvement! Fathers provide enforcement of boundaries and impulse control as well as fostering empathy, all central characteristic!
This is a chilling and captivating piece. Thank you for writing it. To what extent do you believe the increase in usage of psychotropic narcotics (SSRI's, SNRIs, NDRIs, THC etc.) are to blame for the increase in prevalence of Cluster B symptoms? Thank you!
A very insightful question, entirely possible because some of the least mentioned (sometimes purposefully ignored) side effects of these medications are impulsivity and aggression. There are some psychiatrists, bravely speaking up about this effect in relation to mass murders but like I point out in this piece, female aggression is overlooked because of its subtle nature.
"some of the least mentioned (sometimes purposefully ignored) side effects of these medications are impulsivity and aggression"
To what extent do SSRIs provide sufficient mental energy to act on preexisting impulses? Are there not cases where a depressed person had suicidal ideation or homicidal inclinations or some other terrible impulse, but they were too depressed to act -- until they got medicated, and then they were off to the races?
In that case, the bad behavior wouldn't be a side effect of the SSRI so much as the SSRI enables prior bad impulses to be carried out.
This effect you mention is indeed true, although it’s an immediate effect upon taking the drug. Impulsivity aggression and irritability can occur over time, in someone who has the predisposition I described in the piece, this could potentially tip the scales. But I am just allowing for the possibility, I don’t think it’s more than a small corner of the puzzle piece.
A friend of mine has been working in the mental health field for over 20 years now. He was a psych nurse of the Unit for a good portion of that time. He has an NP license now so he sees his own patients. He explained to me the SSRI’s help people be at ease with their decision to end life. They more than likely had had the thoughts for a long while before taking
Thanks for this. It was suggested in counseling that I read Crazy Was All I Ever Knew: The Impact of Maternal Mental Illness On Childhood. I suspect I have this in my family. No one goes to therapy, though. They just stay in church to virtue signal what good Christians they are while acting bizarre behind closed doors. Thus, no one has a professional diagnosis. They are forever obsessed by what other people think of them. If I never hear, “what will the neighbors think?” in my lifetime, it will be too soon. I imagine I will be sorting this out and trying to heal for years to come. It was very confusing. I had to cut ties to preserve my own sanity and wish I had done it sooner. I am rescuing myself alone. What a job you have had. Frankly, I could not handle the stress of doing what you do. Thanks for shining a light on this topic.
I grew up going to Church most Sundays. Once I got my Borderline education later in life all the ones I had encountered flashed before my minds eye. Churches are magnets for them. What you will see if you attend the same church long enough is exactly what Hannah describes in regard to protestors, they turn on each other at some point. A scandal breaks out and one Borderline out of the group will have to find another church to plunder. A fascinating phenomenon is when a group of kids/adults enter a classroom without knowing each other the Borderlines sit by each other. It is literally magnetic! You are right in thinking they do not seek therapy, instead what you will find is their victims are the ones that visit therapist. The therapist are well aware of this
Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I should be driving a 7 series BMW on what I’ve spent on therapy and books. However, if one is not given the correct “life tools” it is incumbent upon them (or me, in this instance) to get them by any and all means necessary….so as to not continue the madness and pass it along to the next generation. The proverbial buck stops with me. Which has been really scary and difficult , frankly but it just has got to stop somewhere.
As a Pastor trained in behavioral health and emergency medicine (I taught and practiced as a Paramedic from the 70’s to 90’s) I see not only my first wife but my own ridiculous responses trying to make it work. You are nailing the points I am seeing in my kids and myself…the ex is “perfect” in her own eyes….WOW.
I have had to take hard stances in my own family. Wait until you learn to spot the males that have it. Thats a whole different situation. If you are curious just stop by your local drug rehab or jail. The guys are wild ! Highly impulsive. That is how they end up in addiction and jail.
The thing is so much of our art comes from that community. I’m talking across the board. They are musician, actors, painters, poets, writers.
Wow. As for stopping by my local rehab or jail, man, I just want to stay away from unnecessary drama. I learned that I often mistook peace for boring. I am embracing the boring these days. I used to be like a deer caught in headlights when it came to drama or people insisting I need to fix their problems. I shut it down quickly finally. That alone has taken over a decade to learn. Taking stances is hard but remaining the same was harder. My father was in the music industry so I hear you with regards to art coming from that community.
There is even a whole book series titled "Divergent"!!! (The poor-man's Hunger Games) Is it coincidental that its aimed at young adult readership (invariably female)?
Very accurate and interesting article, Hannah...so few honest practioners in the field. Hug em, drug em, and send them off much worse...partly may be since so little Truth is allowed into the field anyway. And those who stray into the truth are ostracized.
In my observation, the psychiatric field itself is infested with BPD sufferers.."manipulativeness, lack of remorse, entitlement, and a need for admiration, all while refusing accountability" is rampant.
As an ex-spouse of a Borderliner also, the chaos and damage is truly self-perpetuating...they gotta have chaos and bad drama!
I have a close family member with Borderline and it’s been awful. She ruined so many relationships with her behavior. I stopped talking to her for 20 years because she was so out of control. I suspect her daughter has it too. She is engaging in all the behaviors you described, especially the political over the top activism (which she doesn’t have a real clue about). Borderline ruins families.
It really does, that’s why I focus on this particular subject so much. So often I’ve had family members of Cluster B girls in therapy, and it seems so unfair to me that they have to have a diagnosis to their name while the other does not. I hope you find peace and strength to keep your boundaries and protect what’s meaningful to you.
Thank you. I am able keep boundaries for the sake of my children (who she terrorized until I put an end to our relationship). However, my mother is an enabler and the reason everyone else suffered by her behavior for decades. My mother should have gotten her help as a child when she displayed these behaviors. Instead she made excuses for her. I get loving your child unconditionally, but not at the expense of other children and family members.
".. Evolutionary psychologists have established that females tend to cloak their aggression because they are vulnerable .."
Reputational destruction through Witch-Wisper-Web lies that often are never made open and know by the victim - especial if he is male - and has become a part of nearly all mix sex environment. As a man that had a long experience working, studying, socializing with both men and women before entering a University I had never known or known of such a vicious honorless unJust back-stabbing slimy method of personal attack - a form of evil that if I saw in done by a man I would assume he was sociopathic and best removed for my and everyone else's safety, yet we are nearly helpless to it when done by and sometimes joined by many women that coordinate attacks.
I know this is widespread and the likely major cause of young man suicides and school, workplace, and public shooting.. each time I hear about one I always wonder if he killed the witch and at least some of her minions, and hope only those killed were those that would otherwise never find right Justice this side of death as a woman practicing what female-evil crimes that this Sick Justice system refuses to see as crimes.
It is well argued by me that our increase in general personal through entire worldly general psychopathy may be traced to our legal and then generationally raised acceptance of the clearly insane as normal or even praiseworthy such as accepting the insane acceptance that mothers hiring minions to torture to death - them silently screaming - our unborn babies on no more than whim.
Our bodies - our choice to risk becoming pregnant and so should be expected to birth the child, never to murder him/her. Are women to deranged delusional irresponsible psychotic to be trusted to exercise self-control, and what would that kind of sociopathic impulse driven uncontrollable behavior look like in a man - frequent kidnapping raping and murder anytime a feeling of lust happens .. yes?
There are many female lawyers in prosecutorial offices, and many female judges. All whom may have at some point in the life perpetrated, observed or been on the end of such female violence.
They have an intrinsic understanding. There should be no difficulty holding women accountable for the harm.
Being such a woman, my experience is there is a mix. There are women that acknowledge female aggression and manipulation (having witnessed others subjected to it and been subject to it). But there are just as many that #believeallwomen.
I certainly see my callous, moralizing, ex-friend in this essay, mindlessly reposting whatever she believes will reflect the most virtue off her shining Facebook image. But men are described here as well, with the indicated tweaks: "Narcissistic traits emerge in the way participants present themselves as moral authorities on complex [sociocultural] issues and [trans]women’s oppression while showing little empathy and interest for the treatment of women or homosexuals. This is how [males] can cloak their aggression while exhibiting grandiosity, lack of empathy, and entitlement." Even months later, those sentences evoked John Oliver piously scolding women to just shut up already and open their spaces to men; needless to say, he was neither the first, by a long shot, nor the last--the echoes are deafening.
Familiarity with this personality type , and experience in the psychiatric field through volunteer work has allowed me to see the things you've written about here first hand . It's good to have a professional put it all together in words so concisely . Thanks . Great piece.
Excellent post Hannah. Also frightening. Thinking of the similarities of borderline symptoms with today's feminist/woke crowd is eerily disturbing. Great story about the sutures. That is also my experience with clients, the emotional pain is so overwhelming that the physical pain is almost a relief and focusing on it blocks the other dreaded thoughts.
Thank yom Tom! Do you have any insight regarding treatment? Perhaps in male clients? They say the prevalence is higher in males than we originally thought; which I’m not so sure about, but since young men are made more effeminate than they used to there might be something there what do you think? Let’s do a video again soon- I miss it!

That's quite an assertion, and while interesting, I'm curious what you'd offer as proof or reasoning to bolster this claim? Care to expand?

I ask because I have a situation
How did you know your ex was a bpd patient?
Diagnosis by a mental health professional. But I was 10 for 10 on the Welcome to Oz list of things that significant others to a BPD. Find the book "Stop Walking on Eggshells" by Randy Kreiger.
Classic, but Stop Caretaking the Borderline or Narcissist is the book to read.

Sounds exactly like "trans" people and their enablers and allies.

Don't get me started on neurodivergent....
Go off! I want to hear it 😀
